Here at Gällnö life can be descibed as one of peace and tranquility. Gällnö is a genuine island with large, open pastures and grazing animals. lush meadows and pastures mixed with forest and dotted with rocks and beaches. Gällnö is for those who want to experience how ...
show more the archipelago was once, with well-preserved buildings and open spaces. There is one functioning farm who’s cows graze around nearly the entirity of the island. Only About 30 people live year-round on Gällnö. We hope that you will enjoy your stay with us!
The name Gällnö comes from the word “shrill”. Long ago Gällnö consisted of a number of islands, islets and reefs. When the wind blew vigorously it made the sea roar around the island, hence the name. Gällnö was inhabited as early as the Middle Ages. They lived by farming and fishing. Throughout the years Both Danes and Russians have ravaged and plundered the island. A well preserved stoneoven reminiscent of that time. At Torsviken are traces of the ice sheet in the form of a pothole that was turned out by the ice over 10,000 years ago.
