Explore the diverse landscape of Ameland Island

Located off of the northern coast of the Netherlands and easily accessible via ferry from Holwerd in Friesland, Ameland is a small island with a picturesque landscape which attracts holidaymakers who want to spend a relaxed holiday with family or friends. Exploring Ameland

Ameland has four villages in which you can rent a holiday home. Hollum, the most populated, is an ideal place to book a holiday house. Climb the 240 steps of its famous lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic views from the balcony or visit its two museums, Abraham Fock, a maritime rescue museum and Sorgdrager, dedicated to local history and culture. By way of contrast, a holiday house or holiday rental in the small village of Ballum provides the perfect destination for a tranquil retreat with many opportunities for sunbathing, hiking or seal watching. Nes, the second largest village on the island, is another popular holiday rental destination. There you can learn more about Ameland's history at the local museum or you can go horseback riding and cycling on the coast. Buren is popular for its stunning beaches and there you can rent a holiday home or holiday apartment near the sea and go fishing or bird watching at the Oerd dunes which are home to more than 60 species. In addition to water sports such as kite surfing and sailing, the island's golf course, which is set amidst the dunes, makes it a popular holiday rental destination.
