Holiday home vacation in South Tyrol
In South Tyrol atraveo offers you a range of more than 450 accommodations. Most of the objects in South Tyrol are holiday apartments which are mainly located in the most popular holiday resorts. During summer this gives you the ideal base for cycling or hiking tours while during winter the next ski slope is never far away. However the range also includes holiday houses and chalets that are often in great locations for example on a mountain slope with stunning views. South Tyrol does not only offer impressive valleys and great mountain landscape but also interesting cities that are worth a visit. The probably best known is the spa resort Merano.
Take a stroll in pleasant temperatures across the famous promenade or the Tappeinerweg high above the city. Walking past palm trees, cypresses and cork oaks you will cross over one of the old stone bridges. Listen to the wild rippling Passer flow by and smell the scent of laurel whilst you gaze at the lovely panoramic view of the snow-covered peaks of the Alps.
The spa town of Merano that is steeped in tradition is always worth a visit. It is located in a basin between Vinschgau, Etschtal and Passeier Valley and offers Mediterranean temperatures and more than 250 days of sunshine a year. In the north the high steep Ötztal Alps protect Merano from the cool Alpine climate and in the south the Etschtal provides for pleasant air masses that rise from the Mediterranean up to the Alps. This climatic characteristic made Merano since the times of the Danube Monarchy one of the most popular spa towns.
The best time to travel to Merano is during the fruit tree blossom period around spring time. The lovely scent that covers the city will also enchant you.
Enough of strolling around?
Then discover the surrounding villages and landscapes. The Vinschgau railway will bring you – as its name suggests – swiftly into Vinschgau that is not far away. The upper reaches of Etsch are a very impressive Alpine landscape offering steep slopes and narrow valleys.
The other direction leads to Bozen, the capital of South Tyrol which is set at the intersection of Etschtal and Eisack Valley. Here in the renowned Museum of Archaeology one can view the famous Man from Hauslabjoch – better known as Ötzi the Iceman. Besides this there are many cafes and shops where one can spend a lovely time. Sigmundskron Castle is also in the vicinity that houses the Messner Mountain Museum of the famous extreme mountain climber and South Tyrolean Reinhold Messner.
Further up Eisack Valley you will find Brixen and then venturing up further finally reach the Brenner Pass which leads over the Alpine ridge to Tyrol in Austria. The beautiful Puster Valley is sandwiched between these areas that reach to Lienz in East Tyrol.
Winter fun in the snow
From spring to autumn especially hiking, cycling and other leisure activities are very popular in beautiful South Tyrol. However during winter the region impresses with its skiing regions that stretch out from the Dolomites to the Alps. Dolomiti Superski is the world’s largest network of skiing regions. The area is the perfect place for a skiing vacation with lots of fun offering well developed skiing areas such as Fascia Valley-Karersee or Seiser Alm-Gröden. In the west of South Tyrol there is another large network of skiing regions known as the Ortler Skiarena. It comprises of several skiing areas including Meran 2000, Rosskopf and Haider Alm.
Popular places in South Tyrol with atraveo customers are as mentioned above Merano as well as Sarentino and Sankta Christina in Groeden. But you should also take a look at other places in the South Tyrolean valleys such as the Eisack Valley, the picturesque Puster Valley or Vinschgau.
An alternative might also be the holiday apartments and houses that atraveo has in Trentino or in the more western part of Lombardy. The Fascia Valley for example lures with its lovely villages like for example Campitello, Pozza di Fassa and Vigo di Fassa. From here it is also not far away to Lake Garda with the northern banks enclosed by the picturesque Alpine foothills of Trentino. Riva del Garda that was awarded Best Holiday Resort 2011 by atraveo is the ideal destination for a day trip.
