So lovely and near at the same time

Istria | The way to the next vacation can sometimes be so close: Just a few hours journey time by car it takes to reach the sunny peninsula Istria in Croatia when approaching from Italy. The abundance of Mediterranean vegetation appears here particularly in form of picturesque wine hills, lush green forests and olive groves which stretch out along the turquoise coloured Mediterranean Sea. Vacationers appreciate Istria not only for its delightful landscape but also for its many great beaches which can be found here along Croatian Adriatic Coast. Particularly nice conditions for a beach vacation and at the same time a big choice of holiday apartments and houses are offered for example in Medulin which is a former fishing town on the southern tip of Istria. The blue sea and the marvellous beaches don’t only lure sun lovers and occasional swimmers: Whether windsurfing or diving – Medulin is also an ideal water sport area. Not far away from Medulin is the town of Pula. In Istria’s biggest town – and at the same time the cultural and economic centre – you can visit the gigantic amphitheatre and the well preserved Augustus Temple both dating back to the Roman era. The popular resort Poreč situated in the western part of Istria has a number of nice beaches and is also an ideal starting point of many day trips – for example to the islands of Brijuni or into the idyllic hinterland. Those who are on the search for a tan might want to pop to one of the many offshore islands that are serviced by boat shuttles where you can alternatively seek a shady place. If you are looking to cool off a visit to a nearby limestone cave Baredine could be a good option. Another great place to recharge your batteries is the charming spa resort Opatija which lies on the other side Istria on the border to Kvarner Gulf.

atraveo provides you with more than 9,500 holiday apartments and houses in Istria. Many of them are situated around the bigger towns of Pula, Poreč, Medulin, Rabac and Umag. But there are also some pretty holiday homes on offer away from the major centres. You can find more information and tips also in the holiday home selection for Istria.

“The capital is approximately 2 to 3 km. In the off-season apparently not covered by public transport between home and the City. But this should be different in high season.
Rovinj is a beautiful, picturesque and very romantic town, which is worth more to visit. The cities of Pula, Porec and Umag are worth a visit.”

Rovinj is coastal Istria’s star attraction. While it can get overrun with tourists in summer, and residents have developed a sharp eye for maximising profits by upgrading hotels and restaurants to four-star status, it remains one of the last true Mediterranean fishing ports. in the early morning, followed by a horde of squawking gulls, and mend their nets before lunch. Prayers for a good catch are sent forth at the massive Church of St Euphemia, the 60m-high tower of which punctuates the peninsula. Wooded hills and low-rise hotels surround the old town, which is webbed with steep cobbled streets and piazzas. The 14 green islands of the Rovinj archipelago make for a pleasant afternoon away; the most popular islands are Sveta Katarina and Crveni Otok (Red Island), also known as Sveti Andrija.
The old town is contained within an egg-shaped peninsula. About 1.5km south is the Punta Corrente Forest Park and the wooded cape of Zlatni Rt (Golden Cape), with its age-old oak and pine trees and several large hotels. There are two harbours: the northern open harbour and the small, protected harbour to the south.

it here, in the town that has begun its romantic life on an island, its restricted area resulting in crowded houses, narrow streets and small squares, still untouched by modern urbanism. On the seaside, the town is protected by a high rocky shore and house walls built on cliffs, while the mainland side is protected by solid walls. The town is dominated by the baroque St. Euphemia’s Church, its 60-meter tower providing a view of grey and red rooftops and chimneys, streets and squares, the port and pier with ships and boats, and the marina harboring yachts.
This unique old town core, the 67-kilometer shoreline, 2,289 ha of protected green surfaces and improved park forests, 16 islands, islets and reefs, make this town unique. Built upon a rich fishermen’s tradition, it has become distinctive for its unique boat called batana and its songs bitinada. Its beauty was particularly appreciated by artists who have painted the most beautiful motifs here and exhibited them on Grisia, the street of artists.
This is place providing endless options – walks in wonderful nature, sport and recreation activities, sailing, diving, climbing, biking, discovering hidden beauties, cultural antiques, archeological sites and culinary specialties, all combined with accommodation in high-quality hotels, tourist resorts and camps providing numerous possibilities for a pleasant holiday, wellness delights, business conferences and sporting activities.
Romantic and mysterious, yet full of options for an unforgettable time, Rovinj has become and will remain a town you want to revisit.

long tradition and “fight” for the title of “healthy town”... The rest is nature’s work. The entire coastline, with its twenty-two islands is the area of protected natural heritage.

Feel the enchantment of the town in its narrow medieval streets and warm Mediterranean setting. The main Church of St. Euphemia keeps relics of the saint and presents one of the most beautiful Baroque achievements in Istria. From the church plateau there is a wonderful view of the open sea and numerous islets in the distance. A visit to the Rovinj Town Museum and the town’s many galleries will complete your cultural experience.

Its surroundings offer immense possibilities for recreation: biking, horseback riding, jogging. But, owing to the sea and what it has to offer, ranging from sailing to discovering the underwater world, its therapeutic properties, today Rovinj is the destination for tourists from all over the world.
