This is how holiday rental owners described Port d'Andratx

Port d´Andratx is a natural port at the west tip of Mallorca and it has been used by navigators since old times. It has gone from a small fishermen village to a first-class touristic spot, though the fishing field is still present, fact that favours fresh fish offer by the ...

restaurants in the area. Now the harbour is mostly taken by sailing boats and luxurious yatches.

Port d´Andratx´s main charm is the landscape of the Tramuntana mountains and coves in the area, which attract many tourists to spend their holidays in one of the hotels, villas or holiday houses -an important accommodation offer for a rather exclusive residential tourism-. In fact, most of Port d´Andratx´s inhabitants are from abroad, mainly from other european countries. The presence of defence towers like Sant Carles in La Mola, or 9, Rodríguez Acosta St -being now houses- testify to the evidence of ancient pirates´ menace, a fearsome danger along Mallorcan coast.

Cala Fonoll lies between imposing cliff walls. There is a vast nine-floor building at the bottom end of the beach and on the other side there are some villas. The shore and the seabed of this beach, which is 55 m long and 15 m wide, are covered with grey pebbles. To get here, take the Avinguda Gabriel Roca in Port d´Andratx, and from there follow the road of Carrer Cala Fonoll, which will take you to the beach. To get down to the shore, you will have to walk down a steep ramp carved into the talus.

Ses Bassetes is a small beach - 30 m long by 15 m wide - which is located between the promenade and the pier at Port d´Andratx. It is the perfect place to jump in the water and then go for a walk.

Cala Marmassen is a small beach - 20 m long by 4 m wide - with a rocky shore and seabed, making it a very attractive spot for snorkelling. To get here from Port d´Andratx, the street of Carrer Almirall Riera Alemany will take you to the residential area of Cap de sa Mola, and the beach is just behind this. You will have to walk the last stretch.

Cala Llamp is a rocky area which is a spot from which to get into the sea rather than a beach; it is 35 m long and 5 m wide and many apartments and villas have been built here. To get here, from Port d´Andratx there is a road that leads to Cala Llamp. Part of the route is the same as that for Cala Marmassen.

In the midst of this party addicts will find their desire. More placid are the towns of sa Ràpita, Llucmajor, Campos and Saint Jordi as well as the splendid lovely beach of Es Trenc. Along the eastern side of Majorca you will be able to discover many small coastal resorts and lovely beaches. Particularly popular are Porto Cristo, Cala d'Or, Cala Ratjada and Santanyí. The north of the island is very much free of mass tourism. Larger towns here are Alcúdia and Pollença. This part of the island is shaped by lovely beaches and captivating natural landscape. A trip to Cap Formentor which is on the north western tip of the island and where you will find a lonesome lighthouse is worth considering. There are great holiday homes available in the north like for example in Cala de Sant Vicenç, Can Picafort, Port de Pollença and Muro. Even more secluded than the north is the west part of Majorca where one can find many remote small towns and villages. This is complemented by the spectacular mountain range Serra de Tramuntana which is the ideal place for climbers, hikers and mountain bikers with its vast area. On the south western part around Andratx and Port d'Andratx you will find many luxury villas of celebrities and it’s also much livelier here. It is also worth taking a look in the heartland of the island. The landscape is very impressive and many villages have been able to retain their Majorcan way of life. Most of the houses in the mountains and hills are traditionally restored and modern fincas. Most have their own pool and are generally cheaper than those objects at the coast. From here you can explore the countryside around you or head off to the next beach – which is never far away.
