Seafood and port wine – Portugal’s culinary delights

Portugal | Portugal has always lived with and from the sea. So don’t miss out on the delicious seafood that is served in one of the many restaurants and will turn your holiday in Portugal into a culinary highlight. Alternatively prepare a delicate maritime dish in the kitchen of your holiday home booked with atraveo. You will be able to get freshly caught fish at every harbour or larger market. Together with fresh vegetables and herbs from the market you can easily prepare a great meal which you can then enjoy on the terrace of your holiday house. Portugal’s national dish is stockfish. Though the dishes seem somewhat peculiar it can be worthwhile giving some a try. The Portuguese are said to know more than 1,000 different ways to prepare those air-dried fish (mainly cod) – so all tastes are catered for.

Not only fish – whether fresh or air-dried – but also the Portuguese wine is known all over the world. The many distinctive features of port wine are very complex with lay persons struggling to ascertain an overview. In most cases the house wine of restaurants or a bottle of Tawney or Colheita port will prove to be a good choice. By the way a good port can be a great present to take back for you loved ones not with you!
Where will you spend your next holiday in Portugal? Popular destination with atraveo customers are the southern coastal region of the Algarve, the western coastal areas Costa de Lisboa, Costa de Prata and Costa Verde as well as the flower island Madeira and Alentejo in the heart of Portugal.

“The place is Parede - stood as in the description - not really a resort, but for us it was very nice. He is situated as a whole, fairly quiet and very conveniently located. Both to Lisbon (about 20 to 28 minutes), as well as in the other direction to Estoril and Cascais (5 or 10 minutes) there is a very good train service. Directly at the train station of Parede is a Continente supermarket where you can get everything you needed for the stay in the apartment. Another supermarket (Pingo Doce) is located on the main road about 100 meters from the train station. On the small square in front of the train station and bus station are also a bakery / café, a butcher and two small restaurants / takeaways. On the way to the house, there is also a little cute vegetable and fruit shop.
There are two small beaches in Parede, both of which are within about 10 minutes walk from the house. You need this, go through the station underpass and then further south. As our kids wanted to learn to surf, but we are mostly in neighboring Carcavelos (one stop by train) down, where there is a 2 km wide large sandy beach and several surf schools.”

“Parede is an ideal place, it's quiet, the temperature is very nice, there are few tourists and the price of the trade is much lower than in Lisbon, Estoril or Cascais. Parede is well positioned and has excellent connections by rail. 20 minutes Lisbon, Estoril 5 minutes. Cascais and 10 min. Parede has a small beach, but we preferred to go by car (5 min.) Or by train Carcavelos beach in Estoril Tamariz. For us it has been a luxury, because enjoying Lisbon, Estoril and Cascais, without suffering the drawbacks of excessively sights.”

“The apartment is about 10 min walk from the beach, which is nice and has good viewing areas and a few nice restaurants, but be aware that the water in the Atlantic is cold. Sao Pedro is a relatively quiet suburb with limited range of activities and sights. There are several udemærkede restaurants in 5-10 min's walk from the apartment and there are a couple of supermarkets. It's quick and easy to get to both Lisbon, Cascais and Estoril.”
