“Oberstdorf is a charming German town, where mostly (elderly) German tourists seem to spend their vacation. Information (even at the tourist office) is mostly offered in German. There is plenty to do around here for those who love nature and sports. The skating rink with view of the mountains is very nice in case of bad weather.

There seem to be many fine restaurants here, we had trouble finding one that wasn't fully booked for the evening. Shopping is a little limited, what's on offer here is mostly restricted to some local food items and clothing, so don't expect any fancy shopping experiences. But again, charming. And don't forget the little wood oven bakery with local, traditional types of bread, also available for breakfast.

The town itself does not offer too much for small children, but the surrounding area has plenty of possibilities (hiking, Nebelhorn cable-car, Breitach Klamm, etc.). The only disadvantage we could find is that prices are kind of steep in this part of Germany.”

“Very nice location and at any time can be a little company. The gorge, the jumps, the mountain which can be climbed, just great. Very nice people you could meet. Eating at an Italian restaurant in Oberstdorf just great and price value.”

“Oberstdorf is a pretty well-kept place with a large pedestrian zone and positive atmosphere. The location of the resort offers many opportunities for activities, the attractive mountains are close together. Even with "bad" weather, there is enough variety of lakes, swimming pools, etc.”

“District Tiefenbach is located just outside of Oberstdorf, the center of Oberstdorf and all sights are easily accessible by public transport (possibly a few minutes walk). Hiking trails are well marked. Beginners is highly recommended the Söllereck.”

This is how holiday rental owners described Oberstdorf

Tiefenbach 900 m - village part of Oberstdorf! This climatic health resort is one of the oldest in the upper Iller valley, and looks back upon a long guesthouse tradition. Peaceful and yet active, with old houses, baroque church and chapels, inns, alps, a modern touristic-center, bustransfer, hiking trails, bicycle ...

trails, cross country trails, skilift, skischool and wild nature. Just a stone's throw away is the Rohrmoosvalley, Sturmannshöhle (cave) and the deerpark "Schwarzenberg".
The Breitachklamm, which were made accessible of the beginning of the century by some courageous inhabitants from Tiefenbach is a wonder of nature. Thanks to them, we are now able to admire these unique wonder from convenient footbridges. Another treasure is the wooden "St. Anna" chapel in Rohrmoos. In this way, Tiefenbach offers you sun, activity, and fresh mountain air in abundance. By the way, the name Tiefenbach originates from "Düfa", which is the local term for the dwarf pines that used to be widespread in the area.

Naturally sound: 17.000 hectares of Oberstdorf (roughly 75 %) have been declared a nature preserve, wild reserve or national park, of which 12.000 hectares alone belong to the "Allgäuer Alps" national park.

Welcome to Bavaria

Bavaria | The Bavarian landscapes from the lower mountain ranges to the Alps promise next to lovely nature also lots of opportunities for recreational activity which includes hiking, cycling or other forms of sport activities. In the south of the free-state particularly Upper Bavaria and the Bavarian Alps with Berchtesgadener Land, Chiemgau and Zugspitz region are impressive. Further in eastern direction towards the border with Baden-Wuerttemberg the Allgäu, Swabia and the Romantic Road await to be discovered.

Also worth seeing and always ideal for day trips are the Bavarian cities. Whether with their churches, museums and many individual sights several smaller and larger towns have a lot to offer. Munich is for example not only a great place to visit during the Oktoberfest but with the Frauenkirche, the Viktualienmarkt and many parks it is regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Numerous options such as a visit of the Deutsche Museum (German Museum), a stroll across the Olympic Park or enjoying one of the countless shopping areas guarantee you will never be bored. Further attractive cities in Bavaria include Nuremberg, Augsburg, Passau and Regensburg. In many cities atraveo has an attractive range of holiday apartments which are often a cheaper alternative to a hotel. But a number of smaller towns in Bavaria also have their own unique appeal.
