The area has a well-earned international reputation from the 1950s when the Marbella Club first opened its doors. Marbella's motto is "A Way of Life" and, certainly, this luxurious resort town seems to have it all and is, once again, rising to the fore as a favourite location with the rich and famous, as well as more ordinary folk who are willing to pay just a little bit extra for southern Spain's answer to St Tropez.
Marbella beach is one of the best on the entire coast busy even in the winter sunshine with excellent restaurants on your doorstep and features a large number of chiringuitos, bars and many five star hotels that run the length of this beautiful coast to suit all tastes and pockets. At the seafront you can walk along the promenade as far as Puerto Banus. There are plenty of water-sports available throughout the summer.
Marbella has a down to earth side as well, an air of individuality, which can be best appreciated by exploring the historical, beautiful and romantic 'Casco Antiguo' (Old Town) of Marbella steeped in history and so typically Andalucian. Located a 3 mins walk across the apartment on the other side of the main street Ricardo Soriano you can stroll around the narrow winding streets leading to one of the prettiest places, the fabled “Orange Square” located just off the main street in the older district giving you dozens more variety of restaurants, Tapas bars and bars to choose from. It is also the home to the 16th century town hall and tourist office where you can pick up a detailed map and visitor information.
Everything you could need is found here amongst incomparable landscape, beautifully managed parks and gardens surrounded by the sea and mountains.
Shopping in Marbella Marbella has it all! There are an unusually high number of designer clothes and jewellery shops speciality food shops, accessory shops, interior décor & gift stores. It also has several large department stores like the famous El Corte Inglés as well as hypermarket La Cañada, which is one of the biggest shopping malls in the area and is only a 5min drive away. Buses run from just outside the apartment complex every 20 minutes.
Around 8 minutes away is the glitzy international yacht harbour of Puerto Banus full of the world' s most exotic yachts, with its array of designer shops bars and lively restaurants along the waterfront. The town is renowned for it' s night-life and you can even do your shopping up to 2am! You can often spot the rich and famous who like to holiday in this area. Walk or bike from Marbella to Puerto Banus along the beach side trough the new pedestrian connection, and stop to have a bath in the beautiful beaches of Nueva Andalucia, where are the most luxurious hotels facing the sea, like Puente Romano, Guadalpin Banus, Ocean Club, Buddha Beach.
Marbella is a golfer's paradise and is famous for it's Golf. The 'Costa del Golf ' has the major concentration of golf courses all with beautiful landscaping and elegant Club Houses and panoramic views of the coast and mountains. There are over 70 golf clubs in Andalucia and over 30 golf courses in the nearby area like Marbella Golf and Country Club La Quinta, Los Arqueros, Aloha, Las Brisas, Los Naranjos, La Zagaleta, Santa Clara, Miraflores, Calanova, La Cala, Santa Maria to name a few, several of which are only few minutes away. A simple Google search will reveal the vast choice available.
If you want a beach holiday that has the benefit of many activities, good food, beach bars, Tapas bars, and night-life or a romantic walk along the beaches with the sea sparkling in the Andalucian sun, warm friendly locals, then Marbella has it all. A city where modern and antique makes a unique combination with a variety of architecture and a mixture of people coming from all over the world. You will keep coming to Marbella for all of the above and the sunny climate, which after a few days relaxes even the most tired of us. Marbella with its sun, sea and climate shows Spain at it's best!
The Andalucia region
Costa del Sol is the famous area of Andalucia Region, between Almeria and Gibraltar, where the sun shines almost all year long. In the province of Malaga the pearl of the coast is Marbella, the area stretching along some 50 kilometres of coastline from Cabopino to Cancelada, and boasts some of the finest beaches of the Costa del Sol.
You can find a lot of bike and trail tracks in Sierra Ronda. Trekking to get the top of the peak hill of 'La Concha' There are plenty of shorter trips in the area, such as a visit to the beautiful white village of Mijas, the Cable cars or sea life centre in Benalmadena, The Zoo or water sports in Fuengirola, the fantastic beaches in La Cala or the picturesque port of Cabopino.
Within easy day trip range are Malaga, Seville, the beautiful city of Granada (La Alhambra), Cordoba (La Mezquita) Cadiz or the British enclave of Gibraltar, Sierra Nevada -Andalucía's famous ski resort and Portugal. A 45-minute drive and an hour on the ferry take you to North Africa!
