Sissi Palace and joy of love
Corfu | The most popular and diverse island of the western side of Greece is Corfu. Next to Zakynthos, Lefkas and Kefalonia it is one of the Ionian Islands which stretch out from Peloponnes to the Albanian border. Corfu has an abundance of picturesque beaches with crystal clear water, impressive landscapes and great recreational activities. We recommend a day trip to the splendid small palace Achilleion. Sissi and later Wilhelm II resided here and enjoyed the view towards the sea. The famous Austrian monarch built this palace as her favourite holiday domicile. It has a very well kept palace garden with beautiful views towards the sea. Visitors can now access the gardens. Afterwards it is worth to visit the islands capital Kerkyra that provides with its historical centre and old fortress one of Greece’s most appealing towns. The old city centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and one is able to spend a lovely time in one of the numerous cafés and restaurants. Particularly in the evening the place turns into a living room with a special Mediterranean flair.
At Sidari situated in the north there is the Canal d'Amour which is a natural fjord like canal that connects two small bays. According to a legend any woman who swims through this canal and thinks about her dream man will soon end up in front of the altar.
