Holiday in the "green heart of Germany"

Thuringia | Thuringia, which lies in the centre of Germany, is also known as the "green heart" because of its many forests. In fact, Thuringia possesses the most contiguous woodland areas of all the German federal states. A trip here is not only worthwhile because of such great hiking and recreation areas like the Thuringian Forest or the Kyffhäuser. Interesting cities such as Erfurt, Weimar and Eisenach are also always worth a visit. Weimar, in particular, should actually be a mandatory trip. It is not only the creative home of Goethe and Schiller, and thus the point of origin of the literary period known as "Weimar Classicism", but it also embodies an important part of German history as the place where the Weimar Republic was founded. Great history was also written in the Wartburg. Here, in the most significant of all German castles, is where Martin Luther translated the Bible in the 16th Century, and thereby established the Reformation in Germany. Many other smaller towns and cities in Thuringia also score with their picturesque town centres and sights, e.g. Mühlhausen or Ilmenau.

“The place looks a bit Ilfeld idylisch-enchanted and has its own charm. Tourist other places like it have caught up, but who are looking for peace and likes to hike, for which it is heavenly. On Saturday evening shortly after 22:00 clock, it is no longer been possible for us to get a hot meal, on Sunday, there are buns probably only in a truck stop shop on the outskirts, there, however, until about 18:00 clock. Near the main station Ilfeld there is a bottle shop, plus a Edeka grocery store, a Aotheke, a newsagent and a few restaurants and a pub with ice cream parlor in the summer. By Harz Narrow Gauge Railways and Tram (Nordhausen) it is well served without a car, drives to the Brocken in the morning a steam train directly high. To hike, there are an incredible number of points of interest. We also enjoyed the castle ruins on the Ilberg and the walk to the station Netzkater where we have the coal mine Rabensteiner Stollen visited, a great and recommendable experience. Nordhausen is not far away and forms a contrast to Wernigerode, as many old buildings have not survived the war and the old building is badly distributed today. In our recommended traditional restaurant "Zum socks" in the city center, we have supplied excellent New Year's Eve 2014th”

“The area is not as described online. It is totally "dead trousers". Good for vacationers who want absolutely nothing to see and hear.
Trails are, if at all, poorly described. Attractions are also only accessible by car.”

km, Leipzig (LEJ) 150 km. The site of the Thuringian town Ilfeld is characterized by narrow streets and historic half-timbered houses. The flatter Sudharz is an ideal cycling and hiking region of the Oberharz with the ''Brocken'' (1,142 m) is easy reachable with the historical Harzquerbahn. Worth seeing are the studs Rabensteiner (Mine) and Poppe tower with magnificent views over the Harz. In the summer heated outdoor pool.
