“In the suburb of Florence, where the villa is located, the bus and the train are very easy to reach on foot. Both in about 10-15min walk. For shopping in the supermarket but you should already take the car or the bus. By car it is very pleasant because a large underground car park is available for free. Otherwise you should leave the car in Florence rather. The city center is largely closed for cars anyway and the bus takes about 20-25 minutes to the center. In the center itself everything is on foot. The city is always full of people, sometimes a bit much. For the amount of people but very clean and most Florentines are very friendly people. The prices are also very high for typical tourist destinations but not surprising. The city offers a lot to see, but you should be good on foot. What really bothered me personally was the whole African traders who tried to persuade the men very very aggressively to buy jewelery. They hardly settle for a "no" and pursue one even into the restaurants or their forecourts. Extremely unpleasant and always the same story.
This was much better regulated in Pisa and Venice by the police and the city guard.”

In the fifteenth century, at the height of the Renaissance, Florence achieved its greatest moment, thanks to the concentration of brilliant personalities and artists like Filippo Brunelleschi and Leon Battista Alberti in architecture, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi and Sandro Botticelli in painting, and Donatello, Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia in sculpture, at ...

the height of which were the two great talents of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
Also in the fifteenth century, thanks to Cosimo the Elder and Lorenzo the Magnificent,
the rule of the Medici family was established. In the sixteenth century - after the
Republican period whose leaders were Savonarola and Machiavelli - a dynastic regime was established. The artistic movement of Mannerism, which was established around 1520 with Pontormo and Rosso, well reflects the political unrest of the times. In 1555, with the conquest of Siena, which took place a century after that of Pisa, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany reached its greatest territorial expansion
under the rule of Cosimo I.
The seventeenth century is characterized by the extraordinary development of science - with Galileo Galilei as one of the leading protagonists - with the many museums bearing witness to this.
In the eighteenth century, Florence experienced another interesting phenomenon,
the Grand Tour. Along with other Italian cities, Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance”, was a mandatory stop for the many young aristocrats and intellectuals from northern Europe. The Medici dynasty died out in 1737, and the Grand Duchy passed to the Lorena until 1859. During the time in which
it was capital of Italy (1865 to 1870) the city underwent profound transformations, such as the demolition of the walls which were then replaced by the ring of boulevards, and the demolition of the Old Market, now Piazza della Repubblica.
By the mid-nineteenth century, the artistic movement of the Macchiaioli painters (Fattori, Lega, Signorini) was established, anti-academic and parallel with French Impressionism.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, Florence was also involved in industrial
development, although a craft tradition continued to persist, partly linked to the ancient roots of quality. Hard hit during the Second World War, Florence experienced its most dramatic moments in November of 1966, when the waters of the Arno flooded the city. The city is currently experiencing a period of profound transformations - from the pedestrian area of Piazza del Duomo and Oltrarno to major infrastructure works, such as the tramway, or architecture works such as the Nuovo Teatro dell’Opera and the Palazzo di Giustizia, in an attempt to combine the demands of the modern age with a respect for tradition.
Since 1982 the historic centre of Florence has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Florence boasts an extraordinary wealth of art, a splendid testimony to its centuries-old civilization, for the most part preserved in the more than 70 city museums: among these, Uffizi, Accademia Gallery, Palazzo Pitti, the Palazzo Vecchio ... just to mention the main ones!

There're also many good places nearby to eat typical Tuscan dishes. Benedetta and Lorenzo will give you some suggetsions. If you like to enjoy the nigtlife then, you'll find many nice bars and places. The areas of Piazza del Carmine, Santo and San Frediano for example are always lively and full of young people.

It would be very nice also to rent a bycicle and going through the town centre by this mean of transport! Otherwise there's the bus for the historical centre. The bus stop is in Via Guido Monaco, the street parallel to Via delle Ghiacciaie (2 minutes only!).

In general: restaurants, bars, laundry facilities, supermarkets, stores, banks, pharmacies, are within 5/10 minutes walking. The neighboorhood of San Jacopino (5 minutes walking from Casa di Olga) is very well-provided too.

The apartment is located near a park in the northern part of the city in the Tuscan province. This area is called the "New City" of Florence. This area encompasses the new university, the new tribunal and local offices of major companies. The Duomo Cathedral, the airport and main motorway exits are only 3 km from the apartment.
It is also 1km far from the Cascine Park. The Cascine Park is the biggest public green space in Florence. It is home to rich vegetation, sporting facilities, annual festivals, the Faculty of Agricultural Science, the School of Airborne Warfare and even a couple of nightclubs.
The park, which takes it name from the term cascina, meaning farmhouse, used to be part of the Medici estate. It was used as a game reserve until 1737, when it was turned into a place for leisure by the Grand-Duchy of Lorraine.
Fifty years later, efforts to create a large park saw the construction of several architectural wonders, including the Little Royal Palace, the Quercione fountain (or Fontana delle Boccacce), the pyramid-shaped ice store and the Pavoniere, two Neoclassical temples used as birdcages.
