Typical Egmond aan Zee: Sea and nature
The large lovely beach of Egmond aan Zee is surely the number one tourist attraction. Relax on the sun loungers or beach chairs, watch the kids swim, play around or build sand castles. Let kites go up at the activity beach or go windsurfing. The offer at the beach is first class: Lifeguards, sanitary facilities and of course a beach cafe makes the time spent here a joyous time. Directly next to Egmond aan Zee the beautiful Noordhollandse Duinreservaat starts which is a reserve with varied grown landscape where one can enjoy lovely hikes, rides and bicycle tours. The smooth dunes overgrown with grass alternate with the red coloured heath and rustic forests with gnarled oaks and pine trees. Everywhere one can observe birds and other animals that are at home here in this diverse landscape.
Enjoy and discover Egmond aan Zee from a holiday home
Despite it being quite contemplative in Egmond aan Zee there are many very good restaurants and cafés, numerous bars as well as the 'Club 5' for young people. There are also good shopping options available in Egmond and surrounding area. There are a lot of small shops which have long opening hours with some even open on Sundays. Every Thursday morning there is a weekly market in Egmond aan Zee. Egmond aan den Hoef was formerly the home of the Count of Egmond. The ruins of the moated castle are very worth seeing. In Egmond Binnen particularly the abbey with candle manufactory and pottery as well as the church with wall paintings are worth seeing. Also there are a number of events organised in the music pavilion.
Trips around Egmond
Nice towns in the neighbourhood of Egmond are Bergen and Alkmaar but also Amsterdam and Haarlem are just 50 minutes away by car. In Bergen aan Zee there is a lovely sea aquarium – a worthwhile trip even if it rains. Every Friday the famous traditional cheese market takes place in Alkmaar where massive cheese wheels are stacked, sold and in breathtaking speed loaded at the market place. Who wants to witness this spectacle must get up very early and best come by bicycle as there are always a lot of visitors. But even without the cheese Alkmaar has its lure. Equally enticing is a boat trip across the tight canals or shopping tour through the numerous streets. Also the cheese museum as well as some historic patrician houses and romantic drawbridges are worth seeing. Only 30 minutes from Egmond in Zaandam one will come across the Zaanse Schans district. Here you can visit a windmill in full operation. Furthermore there are countless traditional houses with craftsman’s establishments and shops that take you back to the Netherlands of the 18th century. If you would like to do something relaxing on the return journey and are driving past Arnhem then you could visit Burgers Zoo. Here many animals are housed in enclosures that recreate a natural habitat. Plants and animals that get along with another are placed together – a very special zoo.

North Holland is a paradise for those yearning for vacation
From a holiday home in North Holland one should not wait too long to go on a discovery tour as there are many beautiful places waiting to be explored. Here we are not talking of Amsterdam the impressive metropolis on the southeast of the peninsula and where one could spend an entire vacation visiting the old town with its idyllic canals, the impressive museums and impressive buildings. But it is also towns and villages such as Bergen, Bergen aan Zee, Zandvoort, Petten and Sint Maartenszee that enthral visitors. Beyond the Netherlands the former fishing village Zandvoort has a claim to fame as it did not only develop to an impressive seaside resort but between 1952 and 1985 the Circuit Park Zandvoort played host to Formula 1 and to this day it is an important venue for national and international race car series.
