Unrivalled Florence

Florence Province | Who does not know of it? The unique Florence. Where long ago the family Medici lived with their riches now there are numerous tourists admiring the grand architectural sights of the Renaissance. Any person visiting Florence must take some time out to visit the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore which is the landmark of the city with its imposing dome shaped roof. Whilst strolling through the city try out an Espresso in one of the cafés located around numerous piazzas that are the typical lively squares of the city. Should you be looking for something to eat you may want to consider going to Trattoria Sostanza on the Via della Porcellana. In this reasonably priced and rustic restaurant with family atmosphere enjoy delicious specialties from Florence. In the Galleria Degli Uffizi you can marvel the world renowned art treasures of painters such as Botticelli, Dürer and Rubens. The romantic path over Ponte Veccio which is the oldest and most impressive bridge of the city is the ideal place to enjoy the sunset.

“Dicomano is a small Tuscan town with no particular attractions. But there is everything you need at reasonable prices. Supermarket, restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlor, bank, petrol station, various other shops available. After Florence one can take the train every hour. Both the train, and by car you need 45 min. To Florence.”

“In the resort there is a supermarket, which is perfectly adequate for the holiday needs. One can after Dicomano run, but it's not a nice way. The highly acclaimed here in other comments Restaurant Da Sergio was disappointing, very, very simple and technically mediocre cuisine with a harrowing house wine.”

“Good supermarket in town and weekly market.
Large supermarket with local products on the way to the next town.
You can take the train to Florence, which is an advantage when you do not have parking problems.
There is otherwise a bit far to the major sights.
Possibility of trips in the area.”

“The village of Londa is very beautifully situated with a small reservoir in order to walk around it and fabulous mountain roads for cycling. It is however advisable to advance (poss. With Google Maps) to plan your routes as many roads are unpaved. With a mountain bike, this is obviously not a problem.

Swimming in open water is possible on one beach near Borge San Lorenzo (parking at Bahia Café), on paper only a few kilometers away on the traffic on the valley road already fast an hour away. This is a great contrast with the mountain roads; for both bikes and motorcycling Supermooie winding roads and virtually no other traffic. On the bike it is a long climb!

The village has a small grocery store and an adjacent vegetable shop. Here you can get the necessary (or forgotten) messages in Dicomano 8 km away is a larger supermarket for real shopping. This is doable by car, 15 minutes drive.

In the period of our visit there were a number of holidays in Italy; therefore, both on Saturday, April 25th and Saturday, May 1st (Labour Day vd) the stores were closed. Here we were not fully prepared for what it was inconvenient.

3.5 km from Londa lies Il Colonello restaurant in the mountain village of ricin. Our host was kind enough to post instructions (hands and feet) to call us for a reservation (the average italian unfortunately hardly speak other languages). It is common to noon to eat a big meal, you want so in the evening eating in a village like this, reservation is required. The restaurant also was opened specially for us. The food, especially the beef dishes were excellent. Do you plan to eat pizza or just ask in advance whether the pizza maker is working, otherwise remains only the normal map about :). The prices are more than reasonable, for € 20, - to € 25, - per person you have your bellies and delicious eaten.

During one of our bike tours we really italian aired in a small backwater restaurant at the foot of the Passo della Calla (the only one that was open in the village). With eight people, we ordered without a lunch card for 8 persons, where we were treated to a real Italian three-course meal incl. Drink for around 20 euro per person.

Hiking in the area also seems to be very nice but we did not make it, we are on our bike rides several times hikers encountered especially around the passes. Fantastic views but also sturdy climbing and descending.

Visiting Florence / Firenze is easy to do by train. You can park behind the station and cross the railway. Within buying a ticket at the machine (approx. 5 euro per person) and 45 minutes later you are in downtown Florence without traffic and parking problems. Furthermore, Borgo San Lorenzo quite worth a visit.”
