“The place is nothing special, but because of Castelfiorentino you do not go to Tuscany. Everything else, eg San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Florence can be reached within a short distance. And in Castefiorentino there is a train station with good parking (rare in Italy!) With regular connections to Siena and Florence.”

“Nice small town, so super located that you can reach many sights great (within an hour by car or train). Direct train connection to Siena and Florence in the air-conditioned and relatively cheap train is a great alternative to the car. There is a huge Coop (supermarket), where you get everything (even open on Sundays from 8:30 to 13:30) and on Saturdays also a weekly market in the place, restaurants, .... there is everything.”

“There is a Lidl and Penny Market for groceries. The remainder of the store base noticed some against a city of 17,000 people. Several eateries.”

This is how holiday rental owners described Castelfiorentino

The first village was Castelvecchio, which was a castle erected along "Via Francigena" (the road used by pilgrims and wayfarers, in the Middle Ages, to go to Rome from the north of Europe), on the same site where stood an ancient Roman settlement called Timignano.
Enclosed within the fortified castle, ...

set upon a hilltop, there was the parish church of Sant' Ippolito (the ancient parish of San Biagio); whilw, erected within a second ring of walls there were Borgo d'Elsa and Borgo Nuovo.
There were also gateways and towers and two roads which met in a crossroad on the only square present (today piazza del Popolo). Cadolingi's feud and the Alberti Earls', in the XII century it was sold to the Bishop of Florence, and it suffered the succession of conflict between the Church and the Emperor and between Siena and Florence, of which it was an important outpost. For this Florence obtained the headquarters of Podestà (mayor), the privilege of a red lily on its flag and the title of Castelfiorentino from 1149.
Peace was declared between Siena and Florence after the Battle of Montaperti in 1260. After a brief period of peace, the town became a battlefield full of raids and violent attacks. Infact, in 1521, during a violent attack by the Spanish troops, Castelfiorentino was totally demolished. Therefore the importance of its strategic position diminuished, even though Albert Cosimo I restructured its fortifications. But its administrative importance was restricted because of its dependence on the vicar of Certaldo.
The town flourished again during the XVIII century, under the leadership of the Grand-duchy of Tuscany, and became the home of clergy. The mayor's office had a municipal guard and a wider jurisdiction over Certaldo and Montaione.
Following the almost unanimous plebiscite vote, Castelfiorentino happily embraced the Kingdom of Italy becoming the district's chief-town in 1868. It was one of the first country which elect a socialist administration in 1902.
