“The property is located in the town of Barberino Val d'Elsa, but the town itself, however, is a little further away. Very nice and cozy San Donato in Pioggio 3 km. away. Here all purchases are made and eaten tasty. Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni are within range (max. 45 minutes). Pisa and Lucca are a little further away (approx. 1 hour).”

“Perfect location between Florence and Siena (jeweile 35-40 minute drive), good starting point for day trips to San Gimignano, Volterra, the Chianti region ...

Highly recommended. Top view, typical Tuscan area. To the neighboring village (Poggibonsi) good reach supermarket (PAM, Lidl, Penny), also open on Sundays (PAM). Tasty cheese on the way to San Gimignano at the exit of Poggibonsi right.”

Donato (3km) and Castellina (6km), of Etruscan and Roman origins, in the Chianti Classico area, right in the heart of Tuscany.
The farm is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, orchards and woods. The quiet location and broad views of the countryside are the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. This is also an ideal location for visiting famous art cities such as Florence, Siena, Lucca, San Giminiano, Pisa, Volterra, as well as the nearby villages of the famous Chianti Classico area: Greve, Barberino Val d'Elsa, Radda, Gaiole, Tavarnelle, San Casciano with their churches and abbeys, castles and fortresses, farmhouses and villas.

In the village of San Donato, only 3km away, there are some grocery stores, a supermarket, a pharmacy, doctors, two banks, a post office, a petrol station, wine shops where you can taste the famous Chianti Classico wines and a museum of country culture.
In the Romanesque Pieve di San Donato you can admire the baptismal font in glazed earthenware by Giovanni della Robbia.
Both San Donato and Castellina have several excellent restaurants, taverns, and inns.

In the neighbourhood there are tennis courts, a golf course, fishing and horse riding possibilities. You can rent a mountain-bike in our farm and our gentle hills are full of shady lanes, perfect for cycling or trekking.

Cassia, between Florence and Siena, the top of the valley from which it takes its name. It is a medieval village, untouched, locked in the walls of a fortified enclosure.
Suggestions of the past and the art is also found in the villages, churches and castles scattered throughout the Tuscan countryside; Monsanto is an example where there is a perfectly intact castle, castle Paneretta.
Of particular interest is the chapel of Saint - Michele Arcangelo, built in 1597, a perfect 1:8 scale replica of the cupola of the Duomo in Florence.
Care and quality of the environment are the common denominator of the premises.
Barberino Val d'Elsa was founded by the Republic of Florence as a castle, in a strategic position along the Via Cassia, the town was founded after the destruction of the Florentine troops Semifonte fortress, stronghold of the Alberti, destruction in 1202.
Thanks to its location along an important road Barberino Val d'Elsa became a major center of the Florentine countryside
It is worthwhile to include in your itinerary even the small medieval towns like San Donato in Poggio, Certaldo (Boccaccio’s birth place), Castellina in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti, Greve in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, the Chianti Classico Wine Road and the Chianti Castles route. Moving southwards, you will find many other important places to visit apart from Siena such as Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza. The town of Montelupo Fiorentino, situated in the immediate vicinities of Certaldo, is famous worldwide for the production of pottery. The following activities can be organised nearby: - Horse riding - Flights in private aircraft or hot-air balloons - Tennis - Golf - Trips on Mountain bikes - Guided wine tasting/gastronomic tours - Wine tasting visits to local cellars.
The Chianti region is a wonderful place to live in, both summer and winter. It has a benign and mild microclimate with pleasant temperatures all year round and therefore allows for pleasurable tours even during low season, when the hamlets and main towns of Tuscany are less crowded. During the autumn, you can admire the warm colors in nature or the vivid green during the awakening of spring, when the towns are bustling with life. Besides the high summer season, spring and autumn are optimum times to visit this area. The Chianti region represents a true lifestyle, the culture of beauty and pleasure.
We suggest you visit all the small hamlets of the Chianti region at any time of the day, in particular during the evening when the sun sets. It is very pleasant to dine in the typical restaurants of the region (even outdoors if the weather allows so), where you can admire the colors of twilight that truly make this land so magic and special. Adults and children alike will be fascinated. Another aspect of this region worth mentioning is the traditional Italian cuisine; the area is full of typical restaurants, more or less exclusive, where you can enjoy a real steak “alla fiorentina” as well as various types of roast meat.

Experience quintessential Italy with a holiday home in Chianti

From a romantic holiday apartment on the cobbled streets of a medieval village, to a rustic rural holiday home surrounded by green meadows and centuries-old farmhouses, there are holiday rentals to suit every taste in beautiful Chianti. This region of Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, is quintessentially Italian: lush rolling hills, dotted with vineyards, interrupted by picturesque stone villages that perch impossibly on hilltops. Above all, it is known for its traditional wineries, producing some of the world's best-loved red wines.

World-class wine and tasty tours

Wine tasting in Chianti is simple to organise and rewarding. Countless vineyards offering informative tastings are crammed into this comparatively small region, making it feasible to visit several in just one day from a holiday house based anywhere in Chianti. Rent a car and set out from your holiday apartment with absolute freedom to explore secluded farmhouses and out-of-the-way cellars throughout Barberino Val d'Elsa, unearthing exquisite wines and superb food, including Chianti's prized olives. Chianti's wine is hard to stop sipping, so those visitors that would prefer not to drive can take part in all-inclusive tours covering multiple wineries and leisurely lunches. Many of the region's vineyards are accessible by public transport from your holiday rental, including Castelo Vicchiomaggio, a winery surrounding an impressive medieval castle.

Holiday houses in hilltop towns: beautiful landscapes meet rich culture

Book a holiday rental in Chianti - in the heart of Italy - and feel history around every corner. Romantic old towns dot the landscape: Montefioralle, a few miles from Greve in Chianti, still has its fortified walls to keep out invading armies, while Giaole in Chianti is a rustic town with gorgeous old buildings and winding alleys - an idyllic visual counterpart to the rolling, sun-drenched hills that fade into the distance. For families with kids, the region also offers endless hiking and biking trails. Rent a holiday home in a romantic Tuscan town or a holiday house in the countryside, and Chianti's superb landscapes, wine and heritage will take care of the rest.
