This is how holiday rental owners described Bale
show more The town developed around the medieval castle of the Sardo and Bembo families in the 15th century and is mentioned in the earliest written documents as the Roman settlement Castrum Vallis.
It is yet another typical Istrian town built on a hilltop with narrow streets and stone houses that create a special atmosphere. The town is dominated by the bell tower of the Parish Church of St. Julian, built at the end of the 19th century. The Bembo Palace has recently been completely restored, nearby is a fine example of a town loggia, whereas the town centre is under protection.
In just 20 minutes you are by car to the beach (Barbariga) and for cca.30 minutes at Pula Airport. Since the house has 4 bedrooms, is ideal for two families, each having two or three children.
show more cultural and architectural heritage. The district of Bale spreads over 81, 65 square kilometres and has a population of 1295 people.
The town of Bale, entirely made of stone, embodies Istria's tradition and has been in existence, according to archaeological research, since the Roman period. Fort Bale protected the trade route between Pula and the interior of the peninsula. The Roman Castrum became a walled little town in medieval times. It was first mentioned as Castrum Vallis, that is Valle in 965. Today the Roman Castrum Vallis is a small town whose historical core is located 145 meters above the sea level, surrounded by hills. The Italian name Bala – Valle means valley, and Bale is the valley positioned between hills Monleme, Skvacota, Pizanovac and Veli Majan; Pastrovicev vrh, Sv Nedjelja, Brigonera, Mongrizeja and Sokol. Built structures existed on those hills in pre-historic times.
However, Bale is not just a town. The district of Bale forms a whole with arable land, pastures, forests in which one can easily come across the remains of old buildings, Roman roads, water tanks, wells, Roman villas, oil presses, churches…
You can enjoy peace and tranquillity in Bale, go on a sightseeing expedition to the Gothic-Renaissance kastel (village) Soardo-Bembo, visit the 19th Century tower in the heart of the town and the parish church, take a peak into Town Hall with its 14th Century logia…
show more 24.1°C. Istria is a holiday for the eyes. Rolling hills overlook the fields and valleys with little towns perched on the peaks. It boasts with church facades and portals, tiny village alleyways with their specific architectural touches, the babble of a stream, the blossoming cherries vineyards and olive groves on hillsides, and, finally the sea. Everything is warm–hearted and friendly here: nature, towns and people.
the town of Rovinj, Pula (30 km), Vrsar (28 km) or Poreč (30 km) are a must see. The nearest and only airport in the region is located in Pula and there are car rental offices practically everywhere.

It boasts with traditional architecture (narrow streets and stone houses that create a special atmosphere), multiculturalism, bilingualism (Croatian and Italian languages are equally spoken) and tolerance. So lovely and near at the same time
Istria | The way to the next vacation can sometimes be so close: Just a few hours journey time by car it takes to reach the sunny peninsula Istria in Croatia when approaching from Italy. The abundance of Mediterranean vegetation appears here particularly in form of picturesque wine hills, lush green forests and olive groves which stretch out along the turquoise coloured Mediterranean Sea. Vacationers appreciate Istria not only for its delightful landscape but also for its many great beaches which can be found here along Croatian Adriatic Coast. Particularly nice conditions for a beach vacation and at the same time a big choice of holiday apartments and houses are offered for example in Medulin which is a former fishing town on the southern tip of Istria. The blue sea and the marvellous beaches don’t only lure sun lovers and occasional swimmers: Whether windsurfing or diving – Medulin is also an ideal water sport area. Not far away from Medulin is the town of Pula. In Istria’s biggest town – and at the same time the cultural and economic centre – you can visit the gigantic amphitheatre and the well preserved Augustus Temple both dating back to the Roman era. The popular resort Poreč situated in the western part of Istria has a number of nice beaches and is also an ideal starting point of many day trips – for example to the islands of Brijuni or into the idyllic hinterland. Those who are on the search for a tan might want to pop to one of the many offshore islands that are serviced by boat shuttles where you can alternatively seek a shady place. If you are looking to cool off a visit to a nearby limestone cave Baredine could be a good option. Another great place to recharge your batteries is the charming spa resort Opatija which lies on the other side Istria on the border to Kvarner Gulf.
atraveo provides you with more than 9,500 holiday apartments and houses in Istria. Many of them are situated around the bigger towns of Pula, Poreč, Medulin, Rabac and Umag.
